How to Download a WhatsApp Voice Note on iPhone

iPhone hides the download option for WhatsApp audio messages. Here's the WhatsApp Web workaround that actually works in 2026.

Short version: WhatsApp on iPhone doesn't let you download a voice note directly. The cleanest fix is to open WhatsApp Web on a computer, download the file from there, and use it however you need (transcription, archiving, sharing).

Step-by-step: download a WhatsApp voice note via WhatsApp Web

  1. On your computer, go to web.whatsapp.com.
  2. On your iPhone, open WhatsApp → Settings → Linked Devices → Link a Device, and scan the QR code on your computer.
  3. Open the chat with the voice message.
  4. Hover over the voice note — a small chevron (⌄) appears in the top-right of the bubble.
  5. Click the chevron → Download. The .ogg/.opus file saves to your Downloads folder.

What to do with the file

If you just want to read it instead of listening, drop the downloaded file into VocalRep — you'll get the transcript and three reply suggestions in seconds.

Can I do this without a computer?

Not reliably. iPhone share sheets inside WhatsApp don't expose a "save audio" option for received voice notes. Workarounds like forwarding the message to yourself in Telegram and saving it from there technically work but require an extra app and lose audio quality.

Privacy note

WhatsApp voice notes are end-to-end encrypted in transit. Once you've downloaded the file, treat it like any other audio file on your device. VocalRep processes uploads in real time and never stores your audio.
